This is one of a series of illustrations of ‘The Earthly Paradise’ begun in September 1865. The illustrations were engraved on wood by Morris and his friends and associates in the Firm. The original block was engraved by William Morris to Edward Burne Jone’s design but used for the first edition only (1868-70), it was recut by George Campfield, following a fire at the printers Strangeways, Castle Street, Leicester Square. This pull is from the recut block. The design was used for the title and end papers of The Earthy Paradise. It is printed on Michallet paper.
